and I was a little concerned about finding any good reflections with all the snow around, but yesterday the temperature climbed up to a windy 10C and the comment on the street from everyone you met wasn't, "isn't it warm", but "I can't believe how much of the snow has melted"
Here we have a business park called Princess Gate, a glass stucture housing several offices and overlooking the highway and hydro towers. The first shot is facing west, the second is a closer view facing east.
Click on the images for a better view and in the second photo you can see the green church tower of 100 Huntley Street

Nicely done! Tough subject with our Canadian winters, eh? The second one is my favourite.
ReplyDeletenicely spotted. building reflections are very difficult sometimes as they like to catch the photographer too.
ReplyDeleteWell done!! Great use of the building for this week's theme! And it was nice and warm yesterday, wasn't it!! :)
ReplyDeleteThat is great! I tried a couple off the reflection of windows and did not like the effect but yours have turned out great!
ReplyDeleteThose are great photos! Love the church steeple tucked in the second photo.
ReplyDeleteI didn't even think of using reflections off a building. Great job!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots!
ReplyDelete100 Huntley Street: oh yes,
the

Very nice, great job spotting the subject!!
ReplyDeleteCool shots! Funny how the term "warm" is relative. Warm for us right now is above freezing.
ReplyDeleteBBBBBBRRRRR! Looks so crisp and chill.
ReplyDeleteYou did great, Yes that green church tower really shows up in a closer view of the second photo:)
ReplyDeleteGreat pics. I never would have thought of a building!!
ReplyDeleteYou can see mine on my photo blog.
The tree in the second photo is great!
ReplyDeleteI once read an architectural thingy deriding buildings using lots of glass saying they don't add anything to the environment/city/space they occupy -- they're just parasites leaching off the beauty of their surroundings without giving anything in return. I've never been able to look at a glass building the same way since
ReplyDeleteThank you Shirley, even when the snow melted, it wasn't pretty! Yes, it was even warmer and sunnier today, Andrea.
ReplyDeleteJen Mo, it can be tricky, it helped that there was a huge parking lot and great landscaping surrounding it and Char this buiding is so huge and out of the way so I could really play with the angles while moving my car back and forth out of the way!
Well, yours was certainly original, Wife! and yes, it was very overcast and windy here too, so I didn't think it would turn out. Now, in summer, gtyyup that would be well hidden, so am glad to have caught it. I tried to stand on a boulder to get it better, Fifty but it didn't look as good as the 'hidden one'. I like little surprises like that.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ed. I wanted something other than water Flo to be a little different...besides I waited too long and Saturday was too windy. So, Lacey Jo you think that looks 'bbbrrr'? And here we were so happy with double digit + degrees!! Yes, warm is very relative Ponies, it's been a light jacket weekend, yay!
ReplyDeleteSometimes it pays to take dozens of shots from every angle J9 as that was an afterthought that I like better.
ReplyDeleteNow, Peter, no it is not my favourite...
ReplyDeleteYears ago, I used to live in Toronto and worked in an office on Huntley St and now I live not far away from their humungous complex. Sigh.
I agree with that statement, XUP wholeheartedly.
ReplyDeleteNormally I hate glass towers, but somehow, this one works. Maybe it's the lowness of the building and the surroundings. It is up a hill and is just the right height to 'leech the surroundings' and reflect it back out. You have to be up close - i.e. actually inside the complex to take advantage of it, so maybe that helps.
At least it is not green glass. A pox on green glass. 'Crossroads' (100 Huntley) is full of green glass. That is pure evil.
The large tree reflection reminds me of the multi level tower building in the Ginza, Tokyo that images are somehow projected onto.
ReplyDeleteYours is wonderful.
I love that second picture. The tree reflected in the window. Organic vs. steel and glass. Love the juxtaposition.
ReplyDeleteAh, Jazz Merci!
ReplyDeleteDelwyn, I was pleased that it wasn't distorted as the other side is a little 'off'.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot, same idea I had, shooting a reflection from a building. I like the snow and the trees. The green steeple is a nice touch.
ReplyDeleteI love the tree reflected in that building. Very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot. We've had a lot of snow melt also, and it's going to be warmer this week as well. I suspect winter is far from over though.
ReplyDeleteThat's beautiful - it looks like a reflection in water. I loved the fall-like water in the set below, too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great take on this week's challenge! Nice shots!
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kelly and Regular Guy (we both had steeples!)
ReplyDeleteMr Nighttime What's left of the snow is pretty grungy now, and the deep freeze then double digits will be confusing to our immune systems!
It seems the second photo is the favourite, Rising Rainbow!
ReplyDeleteThanks for looking in Kylie
and it does have a "water" like quality to it, CotW, very different from the falling water in the weir which I love the elegance of.
The "snow" application looks so perfect with these!
ReplyDeleteAwesome :-)
Now, to decide when to stop the 'snow effect' Speedcat!
ReplyDeleteThanks.
Lovely. I used to work in a building similar to this and always thought that the architect had the reflections in mind when designing it. Great job :)
ReplyDeleteYes, this building looks respectful of nature, Cowgirl, moreso than the tall glass skyscrapers in the city centres.
ReplyDeleteThese reflections are magnificent ... I'm particularly drawn to the tree in the second but the skies in the first are beautiful too.
ReplyDeleteHugs and blessings,
