I resolve...

There are a few resolutions I could be following through on. Like heading back to the gym and working out - it has been far too long and I am expecting a guilt inducing phone call from my personal trainer any day now.

But, I still have chocolate that needs eating. And I got a wonderfully soft pair of pyjamas and cute slippers for Christmas that need breaking in. And a new book to read (actually two new books.) One is Bill Bryson's At Home, which I am reading at home because remember what happened the last time I read one of his books out in public.

  2. SueAnn: I guess eventually, the PJs will need to be washed

  3. So, you're resolution is to eat chocolate and read in your PJs daily? Good luck keeping that one!

  4. ooh, I got that book too! One of my resolutions is to actually take time to read more, and when I go on leave next week I am sure I will be able to do that!! Happy New Year.

  5. Drowsey: well, I succeeded today!

Saj: I am thoroughly enjoying it. I so want to underline and highlight bits (but, I cannot deface a book, so I have a pad of post it notes handy instead)

  6. ahhh, yes...and the reason why i don't make resolutions - i never keep them

  7. Char: I actually don't, either. though every year, when I think about the resolutions I don't make, I rather wish I did - my life would so much more organized then!

  8. I resolve to repeat no resolutions from the past. They all were broken. This year I'm focusing on a single word - finish. To that end, I have lots to either finish up and complete OR be finished with and reallocate to somewhere else in the world - trash, Good Will, etc. Sounds like a recipe for success to me.

  9. Who invented resolutions anyway? Flawlessly constructed academic studies probably show that they are the single largest cause of depression and anxiety.
I make lots of resolutions when I am angry, but they evaporate within a few hours. Worse luck!
What the world needs is a reliable supply of moral fibre. If you know of any such, send me some. Sounds like a good way to get rich.
    I love those poppies.

  10. Annie: yes, my only resolution is to get organized - but I'm not saying how much

Persiflage: you bring uop a good point. most of my anxiety (and inaction?) is caused by my failure to follow through on any 'resolutions' (of course, I keep them all in my head so there is no evidence of a plan doomed to failure)

  11. Resolve never to make resolutions - then you can't go wrong . . . probably.
I enjoyed your post on conversation. I'm a listener (mostly) married to a talker but, like you, find myself conversing with complete strangers at check-outs.
As for Yan, Tan, Tethera - the roots lie in the Celtic language once spoken throughout the British Isles and now confined mostly to Wales and parts of Scotland, Ireland and Cornwall.

  12. I've learned to ignore the whole resolution thing. Cause yeah, I never follow up, so what's the point?

  14. I know that exact feeling. But instead of a book. its a a whole set of tv series and in stead of chocolate. its chips. Your not the only one with this feeling. I am right there with you.,

  15. That sounds cozy. I actually already read the book I got for Christmas and that's so unusual for me I'm going to post about it. You know. Later.

  17. I gave up on making resolutions a long time ago. I am just thankful if I can get up in the mornings.

  18. Jabblog: sometimes one needs that boost of a commitment, though (even if it rarely works)

Jazz: it is a sad reminder of our failings

Nora: do. he can write nothing that is not entertaining

  19. Geewits: yes, I know 'later' very well!

Scott: that was my introduction to his work and is still my favourite.

RFAC: I can do that, too. I have a dvd set for Boardwalk Empire to watch and I think chips may be approrpiate

LV: we should all resolve to just wake up every morning....

  20. Guilt is the default emotion for this time of year. And you are a Bryson fan? It speaks very well of you.

  21. Resolving to read more funny books - you could have that one.

  22. Mr Writeon: thanks!

SAW: that barely needs a resolve, but I'll take it
