Sunday Stamps

With the federal budget's announcement this week of the demise of the penny, this may be the last of these stamps

these are from a series celebrating traditional trades.
decorative ironwork and bookbinding on the 2 cent and 1 cent stamps made from 1999-2007 are based on photos by Jean-Pierre Beaudin

although I rather like this ladybug from the 2007-present series celebrating beneficial insects.

Officially known as a convergent lady beetle. these tiny insects have a voracious appetite and can devour up to 60 aphids in one day.

there was no set theme to this weeks stamps, so to see what others thought to share go to Viridian's Postcard blog

  1. I really like the ladybug and the bookbinding. The ironwork doesn't show up very well on the stamp.

I suppose that eliminating the penny is inevitable here too.

  2. oh I always loved those lady bugs... and I was always to dumb to decipher what the picture of the bookbinding was as I never saw the wording.. thanks for letting me know.

  3. The demise of the Canadian penny? I must check out the news on that. I agree with Postcardy, the ironwork does not 'read' well. Thank you for participating!

  4. Why eliminate the penny? I am following Viridian's lead and will check out the news on that, too.

Thanks for the ladybug stamps, feels like I wanna go catching ladybugs right now...I wonder if I can find them in parks here in the city though :(

    1. How sad about the penny. I imagine there's not much you can buy with a penny nowadays.

  8. The ladybird is the stamp for me. Loads in our garden - it's so early for them.
Getting rid of the penny in Canada - is that better than the announcement we've had this week that postage is going up by over 30%?!

  9. You guys are retiring the penny? That seems sad to me.

    1. I hate change, (sorry!) but really, those coins do get in the way.

  10. Traditional crafts and trades are always so interesting. And dying out too, no doubt.

  11. Love the lady bird stamps.
I think postage stamps will soon be a thing of the past because our first class stamps are going up by 30% and second class not far behind. Postage is now more than the price of a card.
We only seem to get bills & junk mail through the post these days.

    1. getting an actual postcard - even from a complete stranger - with a note is worth going through any hassles of buying the cards and stamps. I need a reprieve from the bills!

  12. I do like the stamps with the ladybug on it. I have always had a sift spot for those little animals. I have to admit that I very seldom get mail with stamps on it anymore and don't pay much attention to them. Only during the holidays do I remember to look. xox

  13. Our 1 and 2 cent coins died many years ago and our smallest coin is now the 5 cent coin. Looks as though this may be the next to go, soon! Such is the way of inflation!
