cold front

It was 9C about an hour ago. Now it is only 1C with a windchill of -6.
I could feel the temperature cooling as I walked to the mailbox to send off my latest postcards.
By tonight it will be -15C, with all the rain from this morning freezing.
By tomorrow the windchill will make it feel like -24.
So far the weekend is looking nasty.

March - in like a lion?

  1. March is famous for this. We have a saying about March in Dutch, but it is a rhyme and doesn't translate at all. But March is unpredictable. You can't trust it one bit.

  2. Irene, oh tell me anyway. I want to see if I can understand it!

and I know, March is the worst month to have a birthday.

  3. I feel sorry for you with this protracted winter.
My first post card arrived and I have been notified that I will receive one shortly - all very exciting. Thanks for that link. My recipients may wonder about my funky cards...but its all in fun.
    Happy Days

  6. Today here in Massachusetts it was 64 F. Really felt like spring, but they say a foot of snow is coming Monday night or Tuesday. Just when the 2 feet we had on the ground all season is just about gone. Winter can't be over soon enough for me.

  7. Friggin', fruggin' frackin' frickin' never-ending winter....

  8. Delwyn, thanks, so can I come visit you next winter?

You may get some pretty funky cards back from other postcrossers!

  9. Not really, Char, I want all of us to be having lovely blue skies and sunny days.

  10. I've got some cleaning to do, so I probably will, Jeannette.

Oh dear, Deedee, that may be worse than our cold. We're not expecting much snow.

  11. This post makes me want to rush upstairs to my knitting project. Stay warm.

  12. All I can say is Brrrrrr! (And also, thank goodness for long underwear!)

  13. Here, in Ottawa it was 0 when I left work. Within 45 minutes, it was -6 and dropping (not including the WCF). There were accidents all over town.

Here is my question about wind chill... If it is called wind chill factor in winter, why is it called humidex in summer?... I think they need to chance it to Windex....

  14. One of our radio weathermen once said that the weather would "feel cold". The DJ doing that programme said "Why do they always say 'feel' cold, It IS cold"

And your winter sounds incredibly cold. On the whole, I think I'm glad to be in the UK. Though it is dull, damp, drizzly and depressing today. So maybe not!

  15. Visit Belgium Violet: 55°F/13°C with rain today ;-)

I'm not sure if I'd be able to handle the very low temps in Canada: we all freak out here in Antwerp, Belgium when the temperature drops below freezing :-)

  16. Mim, thanks for visiting. you may still have some more winter weeks to get it done!

Pinklea, hope you are enjoying your weekend!

  17. Mudhooks, welcome. I guess the weather people weren't quite on the ball with getting that one!!

Gilly, and here they tried to change the "wind chill" to "real feel". the term hasn't caught on even though some of the newspaper weather reports use it.

  18. Peter, we keep warm with all our complaining!

  19. It was sad to see the Freezing Finger of winter thrust in ours faces after such a warm spell. But it was great to get indoors feast and grow cozily warm under soft blankets.

  20. ...as long as it goes out like a lamb!

  21. Kevin How poetic!
    Welcome.
Just perused your blog, I'll be back for more.

  22. Exactly what I'm hoping for, Oliag!

  23. In England now, it is warmer and there are spring bulbs pushing through. Everything looks more promising.

    Love your little picture!

  24. MaggieMay, I have spent the afternoon looking through various gardening websites, dreaming.

  25. I hope it goes out like a lamb... :-)

  26. Well, those cute little mice have the right idea! Beautiful sunshine here today, but windy and 30F. Tonight 12F. Really, really sick of it.

  27. Brrr, that's cold. In German there's a saying about April doing what it wants weatherwise and being very volatile (it rhymes, like Irene's Dutch saying). But March?
Ireland is so different, it's quite mild here compared to other places. But we get more rain, too, I guess.
    Hope it warms up soon!

  28. Now, I'm not sure, Ed, as it was cold, but not particularly nasty today. So was it a lion or lamb?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Susan, yes the mice are cute. I could be doing with some creative ones around here!

Babaloo, that's why you've got so much lovely green around you. Right now, everything here is just brown.

  30. Brrr! But what a cute picture.

  31. Citizen, I just wanted to post the cute knitting mice.
I'll stop bitching about the weather now.

  32. It's so coooold. And that big storm on the East Coast is preventing my daughter flying home to NYC from Texas.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yes, Ruth, that storm is sounding pretty bad - we have no snow just very cold. And it does seem to feel colder now than in January.
