weekends away

For a successful wild women weekend at a cottage, there are a few things that can make the time truly memorable. It helps if one of you actually owns a cottage that you can use. It also helps if one of you should be an excellent cook who absolutely loves to feed the five thousand. You should all love to laugh about life and have a cache of stories to share. And be willing to just lounge around and drink coffee or wine or water or whatever. Indoor plumbing is a good thing to have. As is a fire at the end of the day.
You should travel far enough away that it feels like a true escape from the life you have without these friends nearby.

You find yourself a little dream car

and leave the big city behind
and drive until you cannot drive any further
then you venture a little.

then you stop.

  2. I'm too old and feeble to play with wild women and my mother warned me about them years ago. I could however have a triumphant time with that car though.

  7. I'm a firm believer in the powers of the Wild Women Weekend (or Wimmin, as my friends and I spell it). Long may they continue!

  8. It looks like you got a little bit of everything in the spectrum there, Violetski (that's my new name for you). Almost like planes, trains and automobiles, but we'd have to substitute boats and swings I think. Lovely photos.

  9. Chloe: doesn't it sound fun? it was, though actually more laid back than you might expect.

Jazz: as you can understand being a cottager yourself.

Sunny: it was a great escape.

  10. Bandobras: that car was a gorgeous specimen. I could barely control myself from caressing her as I took photos. I sort of understand the cover, but was annoyed at it being there, wanting to peer at the inside and drool...

Miwise: it had a great vantage point, I sat and watched some swans gliding past.

Char: it was a first for us to get together like that, but the timing was right.

  11. Pinklea: I almost spelled it that way! Can we shrink the country so we could start one?

Ruth: yes, I was transported in many ways.....

  13. I like the addition of 'Carriage Town' being slipped in beside the digital pics! Women and weekends rule!!

ps...incidentally - my son wrote a song called Velvet Sky recently and his band will be playing it at a gig on Saturday.!!

  14. Susan: cottages are always full of memories, aren't they?

Lena: oh thanks! that is one of the murals I found in Flint, MI on my journey home.

Maggie May: and I intend to do more fun stuff - I've wasted too much time working.

  15. Fantastic, how relaxing! I'm off to visit my mum this weekend, she lives about 3 hours south of here by the beach so the kids are excited too! She has a little cottage which we stay in, she calls it a "crib".

  20. Oh this sounds like a perfect weekend! How I wish I had a cottage to share...How I wish I had that adorable yellow TR sitting in my driveway...

Mr O had a green TR for many years and it was good fun to go on road trips in it...but it did get expensive to maintain:(

  22. Amanda: and here I thought "crib" was a hip hop expression - they stole it from the kiwis!

Gilly: how I wish we had some sea nearer. though lakes are nice, in their own way.

Gypsy lala: Hi! and welcome. nice to hear from you.

  23. Mr Nighttime: it whetted my appetite for sure.

    Geewits: yes, I was rested.
