I loathe, er love, oh really?

a way to distract from a universally panned film....

Personally, I LOVE Hydrangeas

  1. I'm afraid I didn't quite get the Madonna thing. I must not be in on something. I'm afraid this post is rather wasted on me because what does the bottom image show? Oh never mind, you would have to explain to much to me, I can see that now. I'm in over my head. XOX

  2. Ah, you see, Madonna was given a lovely big hydrangea by a fan at the Venice film festival and she rolled her eyes and dropped it to the ground and said "I loathe hydrangeas" as if he should have known that if he were a true fan.
This video just draws out the whole thing and keeps her name in the news about something other than her panned movie W.E. She in Toronto now to promote the film.

the second shot if a close up of another hydrangea. I rather like it.

  3. Thanks for the explanation of the Madonna thing - I didn't quite get it either, out of the loop as I usually am. However, I'm not a big hydrangea fan either. Not even of the pink ones, though I think they're better than the purply-blue ones.

  4. I love them, I have some 'lace cap' hydrangeas at my house (the bush will escape the wrecking ball by virtue of them being in the backyard well away from the house) and they are so pretty! Madonna should get over herself, ungrateful *****. :-)

  5. Thanks for your explanation, Violet. Now it makes sense.

  6. Pinklea: maybe because of the TIFF thing, it was all over the news today.
    I like big dramatic flowers.

Saj: at least you will have something from the old house left to nurture. Imagine Madonna thinking she could hurt the feelings of a flower...

Nora: perhaps I assume too much

  10. As nice as hydrangeas are they look pretty crummy by this time of year.

  11. I like hydrangeas as a backdrop for other flowering shrubs. I've never been a fan of the regular shape and regular size and showiness. As if they do this on purpose, just to annoy me. What I love is the look of individual blossoms up close. The variation of an individual petal--your second hydrangea shot. I think the Madonna thing simply highlights the idea that we love or loathe them. I USED to loathe them, until I saw someone use them as one part of her shrub garden. And she let me grab a blossom. She changes the soil from year to year, from acid to base, to change the color.

I enjoyed this post and the comments. A LOT.

  12. I can leave Madonna well alone! But I love hydrangeas. We have a rather young but beautiful blue one, but the heads are enormous and too heavy for the stalks. Hoping that next year it will put a bit more oomph into the branches and the flowers will be held high!

  13. How silly of Madonna!

I like hydrangeas too and have several hardy varieties in my garden. I'm sure Madonna will never know about mine. Or care.
