No big story with this particular gravesite. This was taken a month ago at the Woodland Cemetery which, as you can see, has some wonderful views out over the lake. That is Hamilton on the other side. I think Joan has a perfect spot - even when the trees come into full leaf, she will still be able to see the opposite shore as will any visitors who take up her offer of a seat. I'm not usually partial to modern headstones, but this one, with the view, I really like. It is nearby the very first grave post which also featured a modern, shiny headstone that I found attractive (which can be seen here).
According to the death announcement in the Globe & Mail, Joan Mudge lived in Carlisle which is about 13 miles from her new home. She "passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer" and left behind her husband Drew and three children plus five grandchildren. Her parents and five siblings will also possibly make the long trek to her bench and have a sit and visit.

ReplyDeleteIt is unusual. Beautiful, but unusual. Drew is there but not yet departed. And their union is celebrated. "Together Forever' gives a new slant to "Til death do us part'.
ReplyDeletei never saw something like that a bench attached to the grave! i do often see "remembrance" benches placed there by someone for someone... but this is original. just wonder if mere strangers are "allowed" to sit on that bench too... i probably would not...
