SundayStills - pets

Absynthe

What do you mean "I want a picture, look cute?"

I was sleeping... and I'm going back to sleep.

Go take a picture of the turtle...

oops, Otis isn't too happy about this photo taking either.

Abby is now 14 years old and Otis is an astounding 25 years old.
Neither are terribly cuddly.
Luckily, only the cat likes to sleep on my chest.

Pets was the first Sunday Stills photo challenge a year ago, and we are revisiting the same challenge with dozens of newer participants (myself included), so check out the other pets who rule over us here.

  3. Abby is cute whether she likes it or not. And so is otis..

  4. Abby looks gorgeous and cozy. I didn't know little turtles could live to be so old. Otis has a sweet face and his markings are beautiful.

  5. Ed: I know. he will be the executor of my will, I think!

AmyR: thanks. she is at her cutest when sleeping, as is the turtle actually!

Jazz: I think she likes it, just can't be bothered to show off.

Diane: I didn't either when I got him! I was told by everyone who had turtles that they all seemed to die early (like goldfish!) but this guy just keeps on truckin'
I wish he would have sat still to get a better shot of his markings.

  6. Loved your site. Great photo's of the cat and the turtle. I'm just new at this. It seems each blog I look at I get carried away, and end up spending hours exploring. (O.o) I must keep focused! erm... I really didn't expect that pun.

  7. You've had this turtle for 25 years? Is he a regular little turtle from a pet store? That's wild. And what prompted you to name your cat absythe?

  8. Elizabeth: welcome. and I know what you mean, I have done the same with other blogs... lost a whole afternoon.
So, come back for more, I'll be here.

  9. XUP: yup. just a regular Red Eared Slider from the pet store.
the cat does not now exhibit some of the zaniness she did as a kitten. she loved to carry out the same pouncing moves over and over and over. so I figured naming her after a highly addictive and mind altering drink suited.

  12. what a great shot of the turtle! I've never known one who lived so long. You must have the Magic Touch.

  13. Love both your pets, did not realize turtles could live so long, you must have given lots of tlc. Take care.

  14. Chloe: yes, I felt quite inspired by that name for him!

Holly: I don't know about a magic touch - he was certainly not happy about being picked up, but it was the only way I could get a non blurry shot of him.

Cinner: apparently turtles can actually live to a ripe old age, they just usually don't. he doesn't have many predators to worry about - not even the cat cares much.

  15. 25 years! Have you had Otis all those years? And your kitty is so pretty. :)

  16. That's crazy about the turtle. Heck your cat is pretty old, too. What do you feed a turtle anyway?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Dibear: yes, I have. he was slightly bigger than a quarter when I got him.

Geewits: where have all the years gone, eh?
Otis eats mostly turtle pellets (which seems to have a whole pile of vitamin and mineral supplements, just like our food) but also freeze dried krill and frozen bloodworm. they also love bananas! and raw hamburger. sometimes I will pick up some fresh snails from the gardens on my route or buy him a live goldfish or two, but that gets awfully messy in the water.

  18. That cat things she is cute enough sleeping and she is right. She is lovely. Love the turtle pic. He is as 'cool' as the cat is cozy.

  19. Steffie: she is cute. and cozy, shedding fur on my nice chenille blanket!

  20. Autumn Belle: I will pass that on to them, thanks!

  21. Oh, I forgot about Otis! He's so cute! Is he just "there"? Or does he interact with you? We've never had a turtle pet, mainly because of the salmonella risk with the kids and then grandkids.

Absynthe is very stately and serene. One cat shedding hair? Pshaw! I have 3 cats and a dog shedding hair all over the place!

  22. Oh these are great... that Otis is quite a Poser!!!

  23. Otis, a 25 year old turtle - you can't beat that!

  24. Susan: I know, all that scrubbing of hands after every petting! I used to play with him when he was small. it was fun to turn him on his back and watch him learn to flip himself over.
he definitely interacts, though through the glass - he comes to greet when you walk by and follows your hand with the food.
and he does great poses when he is basking.

  25. Gwen: I seem to have caught a moment when he wasn't hissing at me furiously!

crazysheeplady: I think he is one of the older pets in this series (who isn't a horse!)

  26. The cat looks so peaceful it's hard ot believe she isn't cuddly. And Otis has one of those old wise turtle expressions.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Gina: thanks

SAW: I know, but she does not like to be cuddled. she will crawl up and snuggle on your chest while you are reclining, though.
He does, doesn't he (though little he has seen of the world...)

  28. Love the turtle, 25 years old, that is something. Good thing Otis doesn't want to cuddle...

    ReplyDelete
  29. Regular Guy: yes, that beaky mouth of his is very sharp!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I love Otis and Abby! 25! wow! and 14, too. i love older animals, such sweeties. have you had them both the whole time? both are so adorable...i love cats and am a crazy turtle lover too!
