New Year's stamps are indeed hard to find. I thought this was a good example of one, until I looked it up in the handy Philatelist and Postal History site of Archives Canada. Of course, since fireworks are not a part of our New Year's tradition, I wonder where I got that idea... Anyway, seems it is simply part of a 'celebration' series, though it is a
special one in that it has an exclamation point after the Canada.
So, in the spirit of fireworks, here are two stamps featuring Aurora Borealis
and a sparkly postcard from Postcrossing friend Irina received just before Christmas
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in Czech
Ooooh...that IS sparkly....I like it.
ReplyDeleteI like the Aurora Borealis stamps, especially the one from Finland. We used to have a big fireworks display here, but it was eliminated a few years ago.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you. Your choices of stamps are lovely.
ReplyDeleteSomehow I assumed that everywhere does fireworks, although I have no idea of when the practice started here - not in my youth! Being close to the fireworks here means staying up to bring in the New Year - no chance of going to sleep with all that noise.
Happy New Year, and thanks for participating. I like the excitement of the Canada! stamps!
ReplyDeleteSomehow the Aurora Borealis beats all the fireworks in the world.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful stamps! I would love to see the Aurora Borealis - but whether I will I don't know!
ReplyDeleteHBappy New Year to you!
Lovely celebratory stamps!
ReplyDeleteI always think there should be fireworks for the New Year but I don't think I've ever seen them at that time apart from 2000 when we did have some great displays.
A sparkly time all around with this selection. They are attaching our firework celebration stamp to the year of the dragon sheet this year. There are always lots of fireworks here, starts the new year off with a bang. I always love the count down.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year

I had never thought of New Year's stamps before but I do suppose there aren't too many of them. Christmas seems to be the major holiday to commemorate. Thanks for showing these.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful stamps. Can't decide on which one I like better.
ReplyDeleteHoping you had a lovely Christmas and I wish you a Happy New Year.
