  1. There are some very cool pub names/signs around. I believe there are people who collect “sightings”, websites devoted to this hobby and other fun stuff.

  5. My mate (as in friend) used to have a pub named the Rat 'n Roach (as in rodent)....mainly owing to the fact that when they first bought the pub and were doing renovations that was what they had the most of!!

  10. Basically. car cricket is a game my family used to play on long car trips. Pub names are the key. if you pass a pub called the Red Lion then you would get 4 runs as a lion has 4 legs! a pub called the Queen Victoria would get you 2 runs as only 2 legs and so forth, a pub called the royal oak for instance would mean you were out and the next person would then be in and start collecting runs.

so you get runs for any pub names that have people/ animals number of legs. And non people/animal pub names mean that person is out and the next one takes over.
    Does that make sense -

it is good fun, and keeps kids amused. We used to make it a bit more exciting by saying that whoever had the most runs at the end of the journey would get a prize.

  11. MA: that sound so much more fun than our game of cows and graveyards. The first to yell out cows at a sighting gets a point, but the first to yell out graveyard gets all the others' cow points.

I imagine the your driver wouldn't get to contribute much, having to pay attention to the road, or maybe he (I'm assuming he!) might have an inate male instinct for seeking out such signs?!
