are now over for the season. As much fun as I have at these events, I know very little about the inner workings of these old automobiles. I am all about the body. The curves. The colours. The style.
The instructions for this challenge was "transportation
for two or more passengers"
but this model always has that little extra room in the rumble seat
and a no frills interior on this one, with a bit of home made decoration
see more examples of transportation at SundayStills
Hey these are really neat. How lucky for you to have a oldies car show to photograph. Very nice. :)
ReplyDeleteall the old school cars look so sophisticated & classic
ReplyDeletegreat photos :)
Awesome shots...I just love old cars.
ReplyDeleteIt's certainly a whimsical looking ford Crestliner.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand the no draft window is on a Chevy.
I know nothing about cars, but these are outstanding. I think they are all attractive and have something to say for themselves and I wouldn't mind owning any of them, but I'd sell it quickly, because I need the cash more than the car.
ReplyDeleteDibear: yes, we have a weekly event at the local mall.
ReplyDeleteChloe: there is a certain elegance with most of the older styles which is very attractive
Colleen: and I love the care these collectors have put into them
Nora: I would be scared to drive one for fear of any accidents - it would hurt too much.
Bandobras: thanks - bad editing where I couldn't decide which pictures to use! though I didn't remember where that window shot was from. it's fixed now.
I love these old cars. So romantic. These really were the times..
ReplyDeletewow! i don't know anything about car, i don't even drive..but i know beauty when i see one...and those vintage worth a second look...ha!ha1ha1
ReplyDeleteI wonder if something was going on this week. When I drove to work Friday, I saw antique cars driving the entire 15 miles.
ReplyDeleteThat Crestliner (didn't know the name before) is scrumptious. I do love looking at these.
I'll bet Susie is gonna love this too.
Ha! Ruth knows me tooo well! Yes, I do love all these cars and sooo many more, Sanna! If I had Jay Leno's money, I would have a huge collection just like his.
ReplyDeleteI think our local Burger King has a cruise-in every Friday in the summer. Somehow it isn't very special when it happens so often.
This post reminds me that I haven't seen "American Graffiti" yet this summer. I have to hurry, there's still a few days left!
What a great selection! I love to see the old time cars. There is something so interesting about them.
ReplyDeleteVery classy collection :D I love the curves and colours of the old cars too. Is the last one from the movie 'back to the future'. Yup Delorean DMC12! 'Cool stuff' :D
ReplyDeleteVery cool, The hood ornament in the first shot is the deffinate fave, the last of the DeLorean reminds me of the movie "Back to the Future"..:-))
ReplyDeleteNow, I can't choose a favorite coz all are cool automobiles...
ReplyDeleteWow! Cool shots! And an auto show every week! Love the classics. You captured the fine details of each car.
ReplyDeleteSteffie: yes, they are romantic.
ReplyDeleteSalitype: ooh, a second look and sometimes a quick jaunt down the street to follow it!!
Ruth: must have been a cruise night - I'd have been tempted to follow... I once did, before I realized they might be heading another 50kms or more so I turned back. I LOVE that Crestliner.
Susan: I know, I got a little tired of going when it was the same ones every week. Next year, I will go further afield.
Andrea: hard to imagine anyone getting all nostalgic over todays Corollas and Impalas, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteWildblack: I want to experience that Delorean!
Ed: when and why, did these great hood ornaments die out? I miss those too, even the simple ones.
Pacey: my faves keep changing, too! as Susan suggested, a Jay Leno type collection would be mighty fine.
Ebie: thank you!
There will be a good sized car show here this Saturday. Downtown streets will be blocked off to display the cars and a rock & roll band will play. Fun! Maybe I can talk my son into going with me.
ReplyDeleteMiwise: that would be fun. ours is pretty small in comparison - just a portion of the mall parking lot.
ReplyDeleteCool photos!! I have fond memories of going to car shows with my Dad when I was a little girl. I wish they still made those neat hood ornaments, but I bet they'd just get stolen by thugs anyway. bah!
ReplyDeleteLove the DeLorean! My uncle used to own one. So fun!
~Lisa
Very nice cars, I like them all! The first photo was very eye-catching...and, lol, I LOVE the fins! :D
ReplyDeleteLove the fins! The green Viper is neat too, I could envision having fun with that one!
ReplyDeleteLisa: I used the hood ornament for parallel parking, very handy it was, but you're right - they would probably get ripped off if they were too flashy.
ReplyDeleteMellimaus: aren't those fins great?!!
flowerweaver: that Viper was definitely a fave - took a long while to get a clear shot of it!
Oh, wow, those are fantastic!
ReplyDeletethreecollie: thanks! it was fun taking them last week at the last cruise night of the summer (sigh)
ReplyDeletewhat a fun post!
ReplyDeleteThose old cars seem to have a sort of romance about them that modern day cars don't possess don't they!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely great photos!! They sure don't make 'um like they used to...yes...where'd the wind windows go...they were great!
ReplyDeleteHolly: thanks, that was my goal.
ReplyDeleteSagittarian: they were made for romance, no?
gtyyup: my wind-blown hair has never been the same.
I LOVE old cars.
ReplyDeleteI went through every single pic trying to find a reflection of you since you never show yourself. The most I got was that you are thin.
Geewits: haha! really? do you have any idea how much trouble I went through to choose pics that didn't have my reflection in them?? but, yes, I am thinner than any of the other people who got in the way, but not as thin (slender) as the 'Flying Lady' hood ornament!
ReplyDeleteDid the Back to the Future movies make the DeLorean more whimsical, or less?
ReplyDelete...these old cars are like sculptures...will anyone be saying that about the models out now?...I doubt it...
ReplyDeleteI miss those draft stopping windows too!
xo
Great Photos!
ReplyDeleteJim: the movie may have made it more collectible. the Back to the Future version was certainly more whimsical than the real one. for a real whimsical gull-winged car look no further than Bricklin!
ReplyDeleteOliag: sculptures - yes, that is it!
Carrol: thanks, thought you might like!
Great shots..love the old ones..that was back when cars were real cars and the models changed from year to year:)
ReplyDeleteFifty: I recall that when I was young I could tell the different years of most cars by the grilles in front and the lights in back. Now, I have troubnle sometimes telling the makes and models apart.
