a wonderful week

There is a spark of excitement in the air.
Everywhere you go, people spontaneously burst into conversation.

"A lovely day, isn't it?"

"AND, the weekend is going to be even better!"

At one point the temperature high was to be 12 - 12 celcius! - double digits! (which is 53.6 for you non metric types, of which many Canadians are still) That seems to have been downgraded a bit but, still... great excitement. A desire to be outside, walking.

It isn't like we have had a horrendous winter (as have some of you, poor things). Very little snow and not much of the bitter cold of winters past. But, let the sun shine and the sky turn a brilliant shade of blue and suddenly the energy changes. Giddy, and happy.

Or not. A loud discussion with this pair of Canada Geese went on, and on, with no clear winner.

Though these guys were definitely frisky, not all were in a good mood.
This poor swan was in a right foul mood
chasing everyone and nipping at any poor soul who got in her way.
But, we all got our exercise, one way or another!
Have a great weekend, everybody.

  1. I suppose the birds will be as happy as folks, to be able to see the ice break and get in for a swim.

I suppose these birds return after migrating for the winter months.

  2. Actually, Anil, these ones overwinter here - so there are less of them in the summer months!

  3. I couldn't believe the sun actually came out this week, it was a shock. Looks like the rest of the weekend and into next week is finally going to be warming up.

  4. It may not have been a terribly cold, snowy winter, Mr Nighttime but it sure has been dull and grey, hasn't it?

First of all, I love your header...stunning!
Second, being from the deep south (U.S.A) I NEVER see frozen lakes...and your photograph is spectacular...something I am certainly not used to seeing...but would love to. Congratulations on your roast at Eddie's.
I hope you don't mind if I visit you.
    Smiles and hugs from Jackie

  9. I had to look for a temperature converter. We didn't get as warm as they were predicting either, but it definitely felt like Spring. Love the swans.

  15. Isn't it the truth? The sun is a different color and it provides some actual warmth...and all the people blossom! I am very very tired of Winter White Sky!

Love the last swan picture! Those wings look like fluffy layers of tulle!

  21. 12C - that's a heatwave!

Love the birds, we get a lot of Canada geese on our lake, particularly at this time of year. Its not a very big lake, but there must be over 50 there now - rather too many for the size of lake. Needless to say, along with all the ducks, it gets a bit crowded and quarrelsome when folk turn up with bread for them!

  29. What BEAUTIFUL skies and lovely photos of waterfowl in your marvelous post today. Thanks for sharing. We've had mostly grey skies, billowy clouds and rain this past week but I'm not complaining because we NEED the water here in Southern California.
    Hugs and blessings,

  33. Oh yeah! Even if it wasn't the worst winter, it was still long and dreary. Feeling the sunshine, trading boots for shoes, ice and snow melting... I am a happy camper.

  34. ... and the light spring jackets, don't forget those, Jazz. It feels so liberating.
