SundayStills - purple

Purple is, you might admit, an unusual colour for decorating a building. At least at this northern latitude.
This has faded a bit over the years, but still stands out on a street with otherwise unadorned brick facades.
(you can see she owns the store to the right as well which has purple awnings.)

I am noticing a recent trend for cladding new buildings, or renovated ones, with bright bold colours. Mostly they are red, yellow and a bit of blue, and this one,

most definitely purple.

I think it will look great with the white snow that will surely fall
(way, way, in the future)
And behind this purple hoarding will eventually be the new Centre For Performing Arts.

which, by a happy conicidence, also has a purple logo!
(on the door of their old office)

We have had not a drop of rain for over four weeks now. We also are getting frost warnings overnight and warm, sunny days, making it difficult to not be outside. (taking so many pictures)
The clouds have contributed to some very dramatic sunrises and sunsets, portending some changes. This is a sunset from last Thursday as seen from my balcony.

see what other purple was found by going to SundayStills.

  12. I think purple in architecture is a very daring color and not one I would easily choose. I think I would grow tired of it too quickly. I do like reds and yellows, though, and would have liked to have seen more of them. But it was all about purple, wasn't it? It makes me think of the purple Milka Cow.

  13. Jazz: I do love purple, though usually as a small accent. I've been waiting for the right photo to use as a new header.

Nora: I agree - it would not have been my first choice. The darker purples are nice. And yes, today was all about purple. I did get a collection of reds and yellows though, so for a future post...

  18. Great pics! You did an awesome job!
Sure hope you get some rain soon, too. Here in New Mexico, our summer monsoon storm came late and after 2 months of no rain, we're finally receiving daily gully washers around here. yay!

  23. Have you been to the maritimes and Newfoundland and seen the multi-hued buildings? They still paint their homes out there and do them in every colour of the rainbow. It makes for so much more beautiful neighbourhoods than the regulation red brick or white aluminum siding we see so much of here.

  24. Berni: thanks

Lisa: "gully washers" is such a great term - I'd never heard it before and read it on someone elses blog, from Kentucky, I think. Today we are getting drizzle.

Chloe: hope it brings you good luck in your new job.

Cherie: thank you and happy to visit.

Wildback: it certainly does stand out.

XUP: I've seen pictures and I LOVE the multi-coloured houses.

  28. Purple does stand out doesn't it? I'm trying to think of the last time I saw a purple building here in Canada and I'm drawing a blank.

  29. Stine: well if this trend for the bold colours continues, you just may be seeing it with your next mall expansion!

  30. Wow...you see that from your balcony? Beautiful sunset shot.

Isn't it amazing how many purple buildings you can find when looking?...I've always thought that people who live in purple houses must be very creative and extroverted...I would be too self-conscious living in a purple house:)

  31. Oliag: aren't I lucky? Though if you were to look down... it's a parking lot. sigh.

Instead of a purple house, I would settle for a purple, or better yet, a red door.
