Monday AMuse

I hosted a dinner party yesterday.
That meant a good week of cleaning and tidying and sorting and buying stuff....

I've never had 6 people for dinner in this place - and I know, they all came to see me (and to eat) not to critique my home. Still. Went to an awful lot of effort and was exhausted by the time they showed up. Now, I'll spend this week finding all the little bits and pieces that got shoved in drawers, and baskets and closets "out of the way".

Go on, tell me you haven't done that, too.

So, as I take a deep breath, I offer you this little gem I found on a blog from a new SundayStills contributer who calls herself the crazy sheep lady

More cute photos of this little guy can be found here, oh and here with his story, and several posts of daily cuteness in between.

  1. That video was the best! I've never seen such cuteness. Well, except for my own kids, of course. But it's a close race. I wouldn't mind having a little bit of cuteness like that myself.

  2. Irene: He is just so adorable, isn't he? Now I want a lamb, except he might spring himself off the balcony.

  4. Susan: OMG, he does look like he's singing! That is too funny.

Shame about that 'loss of childhood innocence', growing up thing, eh?

  5. What an adorable lamb! He was really slurping down that milk in the video!

I'm usually so worn out by the time guests arrive, I'm absolutely useless as a hostess. Too bad I can't afford a housekeeper and chef!

  6. Sanna, sorry about deleting that first comment. I was afraid your friend would be offended by what I said.

  7. Susan: Oh I know, I started to perk up just as they were leaving.

  8. Susan: we need better timing.
and I only just discovered her blog, but it looks like she has a good sense of humour.

  10. I do the exact same thing when I invite people over. It's crazy, but I can't help myself.

  11. My Aunt's pet lambs ate all her violets!

  12. Char: yes, it did

Stacey: I think I should invite people over weekly, then maybe this wouldn't be such a chore as I'd have to keep on top of it.

It's company-ready now - anyone free for lunch on Wednesday?

Meggie: I bet they were tasty morsels!

  13. Oh Violet, I wish you had posted earlier about the upcoming party. Here is the best solution for "all the little bits and pieces that got shoved in drawers, and baskets and closets ." I get a box and put all that stuff in and then put it away. Then as I need the items I take them out and make myself find a place for them. The things left in the box after 3 or 4 months, you know you can throw away. I've used the "company box" method for years and it's been a great help.

  14. Amanda: simply said.

Geewits: Yep, done that. Easier said than done. I need one of those closet organization specialists to design a personal storage solution.

  15. I see you have found the Keebster, its now a race for the cutest baby between Keebler and Sparkle. Both are completely adorable!!!!

  16. Ed: I'll keep checking on their cuteness

  17. I'll bet your dinner party was wonderful.

And you didn't serve lamb -- did you!? :-)

  19. I sympathize for all the work you had to do, but yup been there and done that and now i just say what the heck. Love the lamb shots

  21. I don't have people over to dinner nearly as often as I should - and I owe so many invitations that it would probably take a year of weekends to pay everybody back! When I do have people over, it always goes well (like you say, they come to see me and eat, not to critique my home), but I just wish that I could do it calmly, easily and without too much fuss. *sigh* I suppose I'm just out of practice and lack confidence ...

  22. Violet I love this header photo - it resembles a carpet.
We had a pet lamb as kids - in the city!!!!til it became too big and tore up the lawn...
    Happy days

  23. Cute and cuddly! Until they get big, woolly and daft!!!

No seriously I love lambs when they are all chasing around, playing "King of the Castle" with such amazing energy.

Just don't mention mint sauce to them!!

    Thanks for your email :)

  24. Jo: no! we had catfish (truly ugly, yet tasty creatures)

Berni: I don't really enjoy it either, though wish I did. What a shame, eh?

  25. Lillie: If I were neater and more organized, I wouldn't care!!

Crystal: I think of you whenever I see lambs, now. I bet yours are just as cute.

Robin: apparently they don't stay cute, so that will be a good deterrant for pethood!

  26. Pinklea: I remember back in my 20s and very early 30s, I used to find a great recipe in a magazine and I would phone around and say: I'm making a casserole from Canadian Living, can you come over and help me eat it? So easy. No more impromptu invites anymore - everybody needs to have it be planned well in advance.

  27. Delwyn: now there would be strict laws forbidding such fun. Did he become Sunday Dinner?

Gilly: I know very little about sheep - but am getting the impression they really are dumb once they are no longer cute.

Susan: apparently it is a universal idea that lambs lose their appeal when they grow up!!

  28. Yes! I shift things out of the way, and I tell you this ,those things you shifted will take ages to find again--cottonreel

  29. Cottonreel; Oh don't I know it!
    Nice to 'meet' you.

  30. Nobody goes to a dinner party just to eat and socialize. There's always a certain amount of checking out the home and housekeeping going on - or maybe I just associate with the wrong type of people? The nosier ones will even find the stuff you stashed out of the way.

  31. XUP: that's certainly my goal when I visit.

  32. I've done that sort of frantic cleaning. In fact, I'm avoiding just that now, and have friends coming over on Friday.

Is there much cuter than a lamb?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Citizen: and I would be saying "it's only Wednesday, I still have several hours on Thursday". Lambs are so adorable.

  34. A sweet little lamb, its a pet I guess, in NZ we will have paddocks full of little lambs at the start of Spring, all with their Mothers. But some children do make pets of orphaned lambs.
