SundayStills - metal

I'm off again on another jaunt this weekend. Perhaps I will be able to find some living, breathing herons to photograph. I tried really hard while I was away last weekend, but the ones I found would not co-operate for my camera. Until I found these guys in a park.

Of course, if I really need a heron fix, there is this weather vane just a block or so from my house.

  2. Interesting subject and great shots. I don't think of Herons as far north as Canada? :)

  6. Ha! These are the herons I find easiest to capture too. I am dreaming of getting a GREAT shot of a flying heron. What are my chances?

  7. They are tricky, aren't they/!
    Good job!

  8. Very nice photos. I love the 2nd one. Herons are rather great birds, eh? We see them flying above the trees in our backyard. I'm hoping we'll see some land in our yard someday!

  9. Love the second one. Herons are pretty spectacular when encountered.

  10. The second heron is very beautiful. It looks more than lifelike. I hope you get to take some photos of real ones and that you´ll share them with us, but these are very nice also.

  12. Nice shotz, i remember such decors in gardens in our old home, mostly they make it with clay. :)

  13. Cool! Did you get any heron photos when you were in Ottawa the first time? I can't remember. There seem to be a lot of them around.

  14. Wow! The second one looks almost real. What neat sculptures.

I guess I'm lucky. I can get a heron fix almost any day at the golf course. That takes care of two fixes in one!

  15. Good luck finding the real ones! They're beautiful birds aren't they.

  16. I love herons - they are so primitive looking. The lake where I walk always has great blue herons wading in the shallows.

  17. Those herons can indeed be elusive! One actually flew in front of my car the other day while driving on a busy highway. The poor thing with those lone legs like a duck out of water!

  18. Nice photos! Just last week, my wife and I were kayaking and managed to coast within about 30 feet of 3 heron! They were beautiful.

  19. Thanks everyone.

We do have Great Blue Herons and White Herons up here, dibear. But they don't seem to like Lake Ontario, so I have to venture a little farther to find them.

I didn't see any in Ottawa, XUP. I guess I'll have to come back before you move and drag you around the river until we find one. Maybe it won't rain the third time?

I, too, love their primitive look, SAW and their ungainly long legs, GDP.

Maybe you should hang out with Em, EG!

Don't worry, Nora, if I get one you can be sure I will post it!

  20. Violetsky - I don't know. I've noticed every time I have company from out of town, it rains.
