1000

It has finally arrived. The much anticipated 1000th Postcrossing postcard!!
Seriously, I was stuck at 999 for a week. Every day I would (almost) run down the stairs to check the mailbox.  And every day I would slowly drag myself despondently back upstairs after seeing it was (almost) empty.

and.... it is a lighthouse! well, actually several lighthouses.
I change my profile every few months adding and subtracting themes for cards, and only added lighthouses in November.
Interestingly, three of the four previous cards were also lighthouses (all received on the same day), each from a different country.

Lietuva (Lithuania)
Pervalka

Germany (right) and Poland (although it is of Annisquam Lighthouse in Maine)

  1. I've been waiting for a big milestone too. I thought it might arrive today but... I hope the fates are saving up something as good as your lighthouses. I find adding to my profile comes easily enough, but I have difficulty with subtraction.

    1. Changing my preferences is difficult, so sometimes I put them back in after a few months!

  2. Looks like it was worth the wait.

    1. I was a little worried it might be something boring (though I do like all the cards I get...)

  3. Just checked my Postcrossing profile and it shows I have received 175. I cut down drastically when I was a bit over 100. For me, the money is better spent on vintage cards on my favorite topics.

    1. I spend too much money on both. Once the price of stamps goes up, I may have to cut back on Postcrossing but, I also like the surprise of seeing what comes in the mail. Plus, I also collect stamps, so there is often a bonus!

  4. Congratulations on your 1000th postcard VioletSky!! What a milestone!! I'm on my 356th, would take some time before 500th as I might take a break while adjusting to my new job...

Your card by the way is also in my collection. Lighthouse is also a favorite theme ;-)

    Happy PFF and happy weekend!

    1. There was a time when I would wonder about people who had so many cards. Well, I still wonder about them - mostly how they store them all! And if they look at them again. I do.

  5. This is such an interesting post. After reading it I went and checked out the website and have now joined it and purchased some postcards to send. I wrote them when I got home from work and are ready to post in the a.m. I signed up for 5 right away and am excited for them to get to their destinations so I can get some cards back. I love getting mail.

  8. Interesting. I too looked at the website just now and then decided that I'm trying to cut down, to add to, the amount of stuff I possess. But I can see it would be fun, all the same.

  9. Yes, by the way, I have read "Wait For Me" and enjoyed it. I love the Mitfords' letters and this too.
