they didn't really look like the kind of creatures one might want to pet, and mostly it was only their heads and mouths that moved (so, no lunging at the onlookers!)
this guy is a Mojoceratops who is the size of a hippo
some, like this Quetzalcoatlus, looked a bit silly, or at least strange with its long stiff neck, oversized beak and no teeth. it apparently had a wingspan of over 15 metres - or 52 feet!
others did their best to look ferocious
Dyoplosaurus there were sixteen dinosaurs tucked into the forest and you walked along a looping pathway
oblivious to it all were these pronghorn and peacocks
and this nonchalant, sleeping tiger
now, he was a beast I wish I could have petted.
...boy oh boy, my grandkids would love this place.
ReplyDeleteoh yes! it was a little disappointing that the kids were all back in school when we visited, I would have liked to have heard some childlike reactions (I tend to be a bit cynical!)
DeleteHow unique to find a collection of dinosaurs at the zoo. Those are animals I would not have expected. BTW, is it not a good idea to wake a sleeping tiger. They awake grumpy and hungry, never good to be around.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't expect them either! And, they were the ones we got the best views of - most of the other animals were too far away to see properly.
DeleteBut, really, doesn't that tiger look so soft and huggable?? How deceptive of them.
Momma's taking us to the zoo tomorrow, zoo tomorrow, zoo..... join in!
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot, Violet. Can I have one of those cute deer, please? Pronghorns?
those pronghorns - antelopes - are cute, aren't they? such nice markings.
DeleteWe had dinosaurs in the park near our house recently too! They’ve all gone now though, on to another city.
ReplyDeletethese ones were such a hit that now there are more at the museum
DeleteWell yeah, I too prefer the absolutely beautiful tiger over the prehistoric beasts! But in the past we had several grandsons who would have been in heaven to have taken that dinosaur walk (and it would have been fun to share it with them)...
ReplyDeleteThat comment came out kind of weird ... we still have the grandsons and they are still wonderful -- they're just all grown-up now and no more in awe of dinosaurs than we are!
ReplyDeleteah, glad you cleared that up!
DeleteNow that's a zoo I can appreciate! How cool. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThere is a park here in Oregon somewhat like this one. Although the dinosaurs are MUCH better there than here as I recall. :D These are great postcards, and I loved your photo of the tiger.
