is pink a colour to love

If you were to ask me what is my least favourite colour, I would answer unhesitatingly: PINK.
And yet, this photo above shows some of my most favourite things.

Have a look at that tea cosy. It is more than a cosy, it is a tea duvet. Wouldn't any teapot be happy to be swaddled in such a lovely thing? As I was leaving an antique store, I spotted this and simply had to have it. I had been craving tea lately and this seemed to be the perfect thing to cheer up any dull dark winter's day. And cheering it is.
The mug is one I bought in Glasgow many years ago. It has a Mackintosh Rose on it and I am a sucker for anything with this rose. This small mug gives me a connection to my far away family in the UK as I have discovered, while poking around each of my cousin's kitchens over the years, that every one of them also has this same mug. For some reason this makes me smile (not least for the razzing I have taken because of my obsessive collecting of anything Charles Rennie Mackintosh).

This journal is not really pink - it is fuchsia. It says so on the label inside. It is so soft and pliable and lays flat when opened. A joy to touch and to write in. I went back and bought another for when this one is filled. I want to get back into handwriting my thoughts and plans. I take these thoughts with me when I go out wandering and end up at cafes or parks and need something portable and a little flashy (so I don't forget it as I have done before) and one cannot journal in just any notebook. A list can be written on anything. My life needs suppleness.
The pen is probably the most recognizable of the pinks. The Breast Cancer Awareness Pink. I normally feel a shudder at the bubblegum colour of it. But this little item is enough to remind me. Remind me of the one who gave it to me. Who is now 3 years free. I think of her every time I pick up the pen.

  1. Lovely items in a lovely post. I haven't seen a tea cozy in such a long time and I really need one. That was a lucky find.

  2. Irene, some of the cosies seem so thin that an old tea towel would work just as well. Which is what I had been using. This is so much better, allowing me to linger over my tea.

  3. You - seriously - don't really like PINK??? That is not even possible in my universe! Now, if you had said orange ...

  4. Yes, I've never been a pink girl either.

I've only just found out that dusty pink tops really suit me.

    Who Knew?

  5. Pinklea, oops. It seems to be certain shades of pink...

    Frogdancer, same here.

  6. Pink isn't my favorite color, but it isn't my least favorite, wither. I like some rosy and also some pale shades of pink. Orange is a color I virtually never like.

  7. Citizen, I think it is the pale shades of pink that I don't particularly like. So I see dusty rose and other shades as not being pink to get around it! Orange, is also a colour I would have said I seriously disliked - until a few years ago and now I seem to have several orange items scattered about, and actually really like the colour. But again, certain shades.

  8. It's nice to use everyday things that have a special significance...

  9. I am learning, Delwyn, to only collect that which is special and useful.

  10. I rather like pink. I tend to like the darker fuschia colours if I wear it, but otherwise, I dont really have many things that are pink.

  11. I like coral pink on flowers and the very palest pink of a man's dress shirt or a baby's dress, but that's it. However if something is of value to you, be it sentimental or very useful, it really doesn't matter what color it is.

  12. I just love that duvet tea cosy! That would keep it warm for ages!

I like pink, but only the darker, rose/dusky shades. Anything veering towards peach or orange is a no-no. I had my "colours done" once ansd it has been so helpful to know what really suits me and what doesn't. And the orangey pinks don't!

  13. I also like pink, but I love so many colors. I really do like blue and orange together, yet I never wear them.

And the pen is a sweet reminder.

  14. I'm not big on pink either, but I do have some favourite things that are pink... I can't for the life of me remember what they might be right now though.

  15. I think it is the darker, almost purple, shades of pink that I prefer, too, Meggie. And I was surprised when I realized how much pink I had lying around.

  16. geewits, does one ever really get sentimental over ugly things?

  17. Gilly, oh it does!
And getting your colours done is so useful, I agree.

Kylie, it is a sweet reminder as you say. Thanks.
I love purple and orange together, especially flowers.

Jazz, they have just become so much a part of you you don't notice anymore?

  18. But there are some pale pink flowers that are just lovely in a fragile sort of way.

  19. Citizen, yes, but I seem to be drawn towards the orange and purple flowers.

  20. When my boys were young and their little sister wore pink, they would say "Pink stinks!". She would get so mad at them!

Pink is one of the colors that looks best on me. Especially the ice pink, not the orangey pinks though. Love the mug and the cosey.

I used to hate orange, but I find myself attracted to things orange these days. Hmmmm, maybe it's my age?

  21. Hmm, interesting theory, Susan because I used to hate orange, too. But I think it has more to do with seeing it more and more, now that it has been an "in fashion" colour for awhile.
