There is no story to go with this signs post. It's just a stand alone building in a slightly run down section of King Street in downtown Hamilton that serves excellent coffee. And all day breakfast. And has two ghost signs. And a pretty blue car parked out front.
One of the ghosts is for Parker and Son Cleaners, but I can't quite make out the other one. The sign might have been updated after William Parker took over for his father, Robert Parker. From what I've found, it was in operation from about 1915/20 until about 1975.
I love ghost signs, there are still so many if you look well. This is a great example!
ReplyDeleteAnd I can't believe it took me a few visits before I noticed it!
DeleteIt's a fine old building too!
ReplyDeleteLot's of 'fine old buildings' here
DeleteI love ghost signs too. There's a page in Facebook now that collects them (and other old signs) for Glasgow so I'm going to start looking about for signs to add.

oh, that sounds a great scavenger hunt!
DeleteI've noticed a few of those around town...sadly I'm always driving so can't take any photos.
ReplyDeleteI've made a few u-turns. though, usually I think I'll remember to go back later.....
DeleteI have driven by many ghost signs and had never noticed them. Some times I would be driving in the wrong direction. They are easier to find when I'm walking and looking up! Tom The Backroads Traveller
ReplyDeleteexactly!

ReplyDeleteI was pleased I could find out even that scant information on this one.

DeleteGhost signs are one of my favourite signs to photograph. I always research them on the internet. Sometimes I get lucky and am able find info about their history.
ReplyDeleteI love that there is usually someone else looking for the same thing, which makes it so uch easier to research.
DeleteOh I will be heading to Hamilton later this month and will go visit this lovely ghost sign place with the good coffee. Thank you. B
ReplyDeleteMake sure you get there early - they close at 4pm!
DeleteI never knew what to call these lovely old faded signs. Ghost-signs is just perfect!
ReplyDeleteI love ghost signs and two on one beautiful old building is fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI've never come across the expression 'ghost signs' either, but I rather like it. You could start a new challenge! I know lots of people who like dilapidated buildings.
