Sunday Stills - B&W

This week's theme for Sunday Stills is black and white or sepia. I chose black and white. I've been visiting churches as part of the Doors Open and was quite taken aback at seeing a grand piano prominently placed centre stage... How unusual, I thought.

Hope United Church

But then I visited the Melville United Church...
it not only had a black grand piano, but also an organ centre stage. Maybe this is a United thing?
Church pews are not usually the most comfortable, but
the curved pews of the Melville Church
have a certain attractiveness
and then, because I love this lamp from the Hope United, a comparison of sepia to b&w

  3. Empty churches are so peaceful. I like the lamp - can't decide which I prefer:-) The sepia is warmer but the black and white is crisper.

  6. Church pews are a punishment to those who have to sit in them. God forbid they should have some comfort.

I like the black and white better than the sepia and like your photos very much. I like the first one the best. I like its simplicity.

  7. Great photos, Violetsky. They are great studies of church design and architecture too. I too have never seen the piano of organ in centre stage like that.

  8. «Louis» agrees that the placement of the piano and organ are unusual, at least in his (Lutheran) experience, where the piano would be off to the side and the organ at the rear of the nave in a balcony.

That said, «Louis» always enjoys seeing church architecture, a subject that has long fascinated him.

  10. I guess music must be a VERY important part of how they convey their message.

  11. I'm a great fan of black and white photography (actually I think I even have FILM of black and white in my other camera at the moment...thanks for the inspiration to get out and use it up).

  16. Churches just lend themselves to B&W, don't they? Beautiful, especially the pews...lovely lines.

I think I prefer the sepia tones for the light fixture. :)
