days of war and separation

There will be sweet birds calling when I come back again,
Songs of deep joy awaking, after the storm and after the rain;
There will be sunlight gleaming, skies will be shining and blue
When I am by your side, dear, when I come back to you.

13 Mortimer St London
words by Edward Lockton, music by Eileen Summers.

I haven't been able to find a video or recording of this song anywhere, but there was a small review in a New Zealand newspaper

"A delightful love ballad that has met with a very favourable reception. Its message will find an echo in many hearts in these days of war and separation."

  1. Wow...that is so touching...it reminds me of my Dad, missing in action in WW2--how he was toward his dear Mother. And she toward him. It also reminds me of the sweet song trembling between my Mom and Dad, as Daddy flew away to heaven.

    Blessings to you, dear one--happy PFF!

    1. I wish there were some of these cards (or letters) from my father when he was in Holland and Italy during the war.

  2. Such anxious times for the families waiting at home during those two World Wars. A postcard from their boys meant so much.

    1. It is very different from now where family contact can be made by skype and email.

  3. I like the design and color of that card. It reminds me of scrapbook layouts and also the sentimental French postcards of WWI.

  4. My feelings resonate with this rhymes since I'm in a long distance relationship.

    It exactly describes how it feels whenever my beau and I are back in each other's arms.

    1. I hadn't thought of scrapbooking - but see how it could be an inspiration (I also don't scrapbook, which may be why i missed noticing what others have pointed out!)
