In an effort to regain a semi normal sleep pattern, I have decided to forego coffee.

It has been 78 hours.*

There may be periods of irritability.

that's 78 hours since my last cup of coffee, not sleep.

If you are visiting from the black box, drop a line in my comments box and say hello. I'll likely still be awake.

  1. Has your headache stopped yet?

I once went without coffee for 3 days, and it was hideous. I've never experienced a headache like it. It only went away after I caved and made 3 cups of coffee and downed them, one after the other.

But sleep is the most important thing of all. Hope the coffee plan works.

  2. I've lived my whole life without coffee and have suffered no ill effects that I know of. On the other hand, all you coffee drinkers could be experiences an existence of which I can only dream. Who knows?

  3. I never drank coffee till after I was 36... then a couple years ago we decided we were drinking too much cream with our coffee and because I couldn't drink it without it I gave it all up.. I soon learned that I would have to try to forego the cream but.... GIVE me back my Coffee.. .. Not quite the same without cream , It'll have to do..

    Good luck in your undertaking!!!

  4. Froggie: Actually, I don't have a headache. I know, weird. I have had a little one which I attributed to lack of sleep and proper food.

XUP: You are missing an experience. I'm sure you have other dreams. The ill effects are only from withdrawal - so perhaps I am not an addict since I'm having none?

  5. Gwen: Oh I can relate to that! I find my tolerance for cream has been diminishing as I get older, so now I have one coffee with cream and the next one black. Unless the coffee is bitter or too strong, I'm beginning to prefer it black. Fortunately (?) the coffee I am giving up is the crap stuff from Tim Hortons which is all that's available at 3AM. Sometimes it hardly counts as coffee. I refuse to go there during the day when better places are open. I'm doing okay with drinking herbal tea and hot water with lemon when at home.

But, as you can see by the time of this post I am awake 3 1/2 hours before I should be getting up to go to work.

  6. Is coffee something that's either all or none? You can't just have a cup in the morning? I'm not a coffee drinker so I don't know how it works.

  7. geewits: I have already cut back considerably over the years. I now only have 1 large and maybe another medium while working at night. I enjoy going out for coffee in the afternoon, but ONLY if I've managed to sleep in the morning.

    Working nights sucks, sometimes.

Actually, I don't get that 'buzz' of alertness that others talk about with their morning cuppa, so giving it up may be misdirected.

Desperation - slept for 5 hours straight this morning, yay!

  8. I don't know but I drink one large french press pot of coffee every. single. morning. Yes, a large pot. That's one large mug and a travel mug of coffee. And tomorrow morning, as I prepare for my race, I will have one large cup of coffee.

I don't know if I'll have withdrawal if I don't have one, in any case I have no interest in finding out :)

I hope you get better and get to sleep longer soon. It can't be good to be without sleep for so long...
