Charming old trams. They make beautiful stamps. When my mother-in-law was a girl the streetcars ran from Toronto right through to Queensville. The tracks were behind her parents farm and she just had to walk across the field to catch the streetcar.
Streetcars run near my Grandmother's apartment on Clark Street in Chicago. We often rode the streetcars downtown together when I came to visit her. The newest two streetcars pictured on these stamps run down Clark St. until they stopped running in the late 1950s. They were replaced by diesel busses, not nearly as much fun, but better for GM. Many cities are now going back to light rail.
I really like these.
ReplyDeleteThey're a beautiful set!

My father used to drive a radial to either Orangeville or Georgetown (I forget which,). It seemed much too far for me to believe!
DeleteA very nice set!

ReplyDeleteToronto has been embroiled in a fight between LRT and subways, for what seems like forever. I don't understand the resistance to LRT, myself.
DeleteI agree, a beautiful set of streetcars, perfect for stamps.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining in this week.
I love trams (and all puclic transport), so it's a pleasure to see your stamps!
